Your first NeuroDance class
What to expect
Trying something new takes courage, especially with a condition that makes moving harder. Here is how a Friday morning at NeuroDance goes, so you can walk in knowing what is ahead.
Before your first class
Give us a ring or a WhatsApp first. We'd love to know a little about you, answer any questions, and make sure there is a chair waiting.
If you have questions about your own health, have a word with your doctor or physio too.
What happens in the class
The hour starts gently, seated, warming up hands, feet, face and voice to music. From there the class builds into dance phrases you can do seated or standing, at your own range.
There is nothing to memorise and nobody watching you. Every movement is broken down and the music carries you through it.
Seated or standing: your choice
Every part of the class can be done sitting down, so it also works as a seated exercise class. Many people sit for some sections and stand for others, holding the back of a chair for balance. You decide on the day, and you can change your mind mid-song.
If you use a walker or a wheelchair, you are welcome. Let us know before your first visit so we can set up a spot that suits you.
What to wear
Comfortable clothes you can move in, and shoes that stay on your feet and don't slip: sneakers or soft-soled shoes. Bring a water bottle.
Bring someone along
Partners, carers, family and friends are welcome to join in. Having someone you know beside you can make the first morning easier.
After the class
Stay for morning tea and a chat. It is a good chance to meet the group and ask any questions.
Finding the hall
St Mary's Church Hall, 58 Osier Road, Greenmeadows, Napier. Fridays from 10.30 to 11.30am.
